Chris
and I met through a personal advert in The Daily Telegraph
two years ago. I had 71 responses and Chris was the first
of five I met. The rest is history!
On the best day of my life, I got up at 7.45am and looked
out of the window to see it was overcast and quite cold
but dry. My mother (who was giving me away), my sister
(who was my matron of honour) and I had breakfast together
by which time there was sleet in the air!
I felt really calm but my mother and sister were feeling
a little nervous.
I opened my H2B's present to me and a card entitled "To
my Wife on our Wedding Day" and almost burst into
tears there and then!
The flowers arrived at 11.30am and they were even more
beautiful than I could have imagined. I did my own make
up, nails and hair and it wasn't until about one hour
before I was due to leave for the church that I started
to become nervous. We cracked open a bottle of bubbly
and that helped a little!
By the time my sister left for the church
it was raining and freezing cold and when I left shortly
after it was still raining. I had a few tears when the
car arrived at the church and had to quickly compose myself
so the photographer could take this photo of me emerging
from the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.
I was fine until I got half way up the aisle and then
could feel the tears welling up again with everyone turning
round to see me. When I reached Chris he turned round
and winked at me which made me feel a lot better and calmed
me down a little.
When we came out of the church it was still raining a
little but we managed to have a few photos in the church
grounds. By now I was feeling on top of the world, my
nerves had completely gone and I was Mrs Alston! It's
such a wonderful feeling and everyone is so happy for
you!
During
the sherry reception at the Bromley Court Hotel we had
a few photos taken outside but they were a little restricted
because of the continuous showers. My favourite official
photo is one of us in the grounds of the hotel.
The reception went like a dream and everyone had a really
good time. It was only a small do with 49 people in total
but it was very intimate and friendly and everyone said
what a happy reception it was.
We didn't have an evening do but the bar in our room opened
at 7pm after the speeches and most people stayed until
about 10pm.
We left at 10.20pm and I was in tears again because I
didn't want the evening to finish and hated saying goodbye
to everyone as I was having such a good time.
We
left for our honeymoon in Koh Samui, Thailand the following
morning and apart from both of us being ill for the whole
of the first week we had a good time!
I can honestly say it was the happiest day of my life
and one I will never forget.
Do Differently: Not worry about it so much beforehand.
