My
birthday was the day before the wedding so I woke up
to cards and presents which was a great start to the
celebrations! I went and had my nails done, did last
minute packing for the honeymoon and took all the luggage
to my parents house. In the evening it was bonfire night
so we all met up at our local fireworks display which
was fantastic. There was even a Happy Birthday announcement
for me, and they said that I was getting married the
next day! Afterwards all the girls went for a pizza
and all the boys went to the pub! I got home at 11pm
and had to wash and dry my hair so that it could be
styled the next morning. I was so tired but as soon
as I got in to bed, I was wide awake! I eventually fell
asleep but unfortunately woke up at 3am with a nervous
upset stomach!
I managed to get to sleep again before the alarm woke
me up at 7. I jumped out of bed and looked outside -
not bad weather, at least it wasn't raining! I had a
shower and managed a few bites of croissant. My sister
(my chief bridesmaid) arrived at 8 and we waited for
the hairdresser to arrive at 8.30a. She turned up ten
minutes late which sent me in to a panic thinking she
wasn't going to show up! She set my hair in to rollers
and my friend Charlotte arrived to do my make up. Everything
went mad - flowers arrived, my two other bridesmaids
(Ellen and Rhian) and then the photographer and videographer.
The next two hours flew by and suddenly it was time
for us all to get dressed. At last I felt like a bride.
I was so pleased that everything had come together.
The bridesmaids looked absolutely gorgeous in their
red satin bodices and fishtail skirts. They carried
bouquets of red and cream roses with ivy and I gave
them each a silver heart pendant to wear.
Eventually it was time to go - my Mum was far more nervous
than I was. The hairdresser commented in the morning
that I was the calmest bride she had ever worked on!
I figured if it wasn’t sorted out by now it was too
late to worry about it! The journey in the car was amazing.
Everyone in Marlow High Street was waving at us. We
got to the church at 1pm so the driver took us around
the roundabout to make sure we were a little late.
As soon as the car pulled up, the nerves then set in.
But, I soon forgot about that as we all got ready to
walk down the aisle whilst loads of photos were being
taken. I remember standing at the door with my mum and
my bridesmaids thinking 'this is it'. Clarke’s Trumpet
Voluntary started and it was time to start walking down
the aisle, which was a feeling I will never forget.
When I met Ben he looked at me and said that I looked
beautiful. I just managed to hold back the tears! The
service went so quickly but it was wonderful. We both
said all our vows perfectly and it just seemed so relaxed
and friendly. Unfortunately, my sister noticed that
the zip had split on the back of my dress and there
wasn't much we could do. Luckily my veil covered it
so it wasn’t too bad! Then we walked back down the aisle
as Mr & Mrs Hunt.
When we got outside the church it was drizzling slightly
but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We had all the usual
photos taken and headed for the reception, which was
being held at a 400-year-old beamed barn just outside
Henley. Before we got into the car we had another look
at my dress which by this time had completely split
open all the way down the zip and was showing off all
my underwear. My friend Charlotte went home to get a
needle and thread - fortunately I could see the funny
side!
Once this was all sorted we walked in to the barn and
it took my breath away. It was amazing - my sister,
the best man and Ben had decorated it with ivy and fairy
lights and it looked like an enchanted forest. The table
centrepieces were church candles surrounded by cream
and red roses with ivy, pine cones, dried fruit and
cinnamon sticks. Everybody had mulled wine for a welcome
drink, and we had the speeches before dinner so everyone
could relax during the wedding breakfast. We started
with roast pepper soup, followed by chicken breast with
mushrooms and bacon in a stilton sauce and finally bread
and butter pudding. It was amazing sitting at the top
table watching everybody light their indoor sparklers
which I had put in organza favour bags along with a
pot of bubbles and a lollipop.
The evening guests arrived at 8pm and the evening went
so quickly. We completely forgot to cut our cake and
have our first dance so we did this just before our
grandparents left. Everyone was having a good time and
the dance floor was packed! When it was time for us
to leave, we walked through an arch to Pachelbel Canon
in D and when we got outside people lit the way with
sparklers. That started me crying - I just couldn’t
believe it was all over!
The next day we got so many text messages and phone
calls saying what a wonderful day it had been and that
it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We were
so pleased it all turned out well, it really was the
best day of our lives... followed by the best two weeks
in Barbados.
Do
Differently: Nothing, well maybe not having the zip on my dress split!
Everything was perfect. We want to do it all over again.
