I finished work two days before
our wedding and the excitement really set in when I went
to see the florist arranging the flowers in the church.
I had no idea what they would be like, I just wanted them
to be stylish and unusual! I was delighted when I saw
the first arrangement.
Both Richard and I grew up in tiny villages in Berkshire
about 10 miles apart, in fact we went to school together,
although our relationship didn't blossom until we were
24! We chose to get married at the church just across
the road from my parent's house where I was brought up.
Richard dropped me off on the Friday about 5pm before
going to his parent's house for the night. We took a quick
look in the church first which looked fantastic, I'm glad
we did as I didn't take it all in during the ceremony.
My two bridesmaids, Tania and Sarah, arrived about 7pm
that evening for dinner and stayed the night. I wanted
to get to bed at a decent time but it was about 12.30am
when I finally managed to make my way up the stairs.
The wedding day started early for me - 6.30am, I opened
my present from Richard which was a pair of beautiful
diamond earrings.
The weather was a bit overcast but it was dry.
My two
bridesmaids and I drove to the hairdressers and we had
our hair and make up done. I was really pleased with my
hair and make up, I had my hair curled and piled on top
and the hairdresser secured my veil and tiara. I got some
strange looks as we drove through the town to go back
to my parent's house! We were all very relaxed at this
stage and I phoned Richard who was still eating breakfast!
Thank goodness the salon opened half an hour early for
us as things got mad when we got home at 11am! I really
wanted something to eat as I was worried about being hungry
and my stomach rumbling while I was stood at the altar!
The photographer arrived a little early and from 11.15am
it was a panic to get ready and have all the photos in
time - I did manage to have a bowl of cereal though! The
bouquets and buttonholes arrived at 11.30am and were absolutely
stunning. My bouquet was really unusual, it was a tied
bunch containing cream roses, elderberries and blackberries
amongst some angelica and other things which made it look
amazing! Tania and Sarah were dressed in a deep colour
that was a sort of plum colour and the florist had matched
the bouquets superbly. By 12.30pm, I desperately wanted
to finish getting ready and to take a few breaths before
walking to the church for 1pm.
Mum, Dad, my bridesmaids and I walked the three minutes
to the church and it was then that it suddenly hit me
and the tears came! I managed to compose myself before
entering the church to Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke. I
don't really remember hearing the organ as all I wanted
to do was to see and be with Richard. He looked great
in his cream waistcoat and tie and we just stared at each
other. He said he had a lump in his throat as I came down
the aisle!
We both managed to say our
vows without crying which is a miracle for me! Tania read
a poem entitled This
Day I Married My Best Friend. We left the church to
Mendelssohn's Wedding
March.
After a few photos at the church and a lot of confetti
we got into the car for the 40 minute drive to Taplow
House.
The whole reception was perfect! We had Pimms on the lawn
as it was a lovely day and the sun was shining by that
time. We had lots of photos taken in the grounds of the
hotel, then chatted to our guests before sitting down
to the meal, as we decided not to have a receiving line.
The food was fantastic, Richard said some lovely words
in his speech and Steve, the best man (Richard's brother),
did a fantastic speech which had everyone in stitches!
We had about 74 people to the reception.
The
evening guests arrived at 7.30pm (about another 30 people)
and we moved downstairs to where the disco was. Our first
dance was to Elvis Presley's Can't
Help Falling in Love. The evening just flew by, Richard
couldn't believe it when the DJ told him he was playing
two more songs, it was nearly midnight already! That wasn't
the end of it though as quite a few of us moved upstairs
where the hotel opened a bar for us. Richard and I got
to bed about 2am.
Quite a few of our friends and family stayed at Taplow
House and it was great to see them in the morning at breakfast.
We left at 11am to catch our flight to the romantic island
of Mauritius.
We had a fantastic 17 nights in Mauritius and I love being
Mrs. Langton!
The whole day came together perfectly. I'd spent months
trying to picture everything, worrying whether the flowers
would be right, whether all the wedding party outfits
would look good, but I was absolutely delighted with the
overall effect of everything and I don't think it could
have been any better.
I felt fantastic in my dress and adored being a bride,
I just wish I could live that day again!
Do Differently: Try and take more of it in!
- especially the music in the church.
Groom's Comments: A fantastic day which was worth
all the planning! |
