A cleansing facial is designed to remove deep down, ingrained grime
from your complexion. The treatment usually lasts for between one
and one and a half hours. What happens varies with the type of treatment
you select. Generally you will lie on a treatment couch covered
in lots of blankets to keep you warm. After taking your make-up
off, your therapist will take a good look at your skin, ask you
lots of questions to establish your skin type, before deciding on
the types of products to use.
Your face and neck will then be cleansed using a liquid cleanser,
which is then removed with damp cotton wool pads or sponges. Next
you will probably be treated to a gentle exfoliating scrub, which
will be massaged over your skin in tiny circular movements, before
being removed. Alternatively, the therapist may use a peeling mask,
which is smoothed over your face and neck, left for five minutes
to solidify and then rubbed away, taking with it, dead surface skin
cells and grime.
Following this, a deep cleansing mask will be applied, and cotton
wool pads placed over your eyes. You will be left in peace and quiet
while the mask gets to work usually 10-20 minutes. Once that
has been removed, you will be treated to a relaxing facial massage,
before finishing with toner and moisturiser. It is important to
note that many facials involve the use of totally painless electrical
gadgets, designed to aid the penetration of certain products into
the skin.
Unless you begin regular treatments, it is unwise to have a facial
any later than a week before your wedding, just in case your skin
breaks out.
Specialised facials include the Decleor Evidence Facial,
which begins with a wonderful back massage, which assesses your
skin type and well-being. Your face is cleansed and toned in preparation
for the personally prescribed mask.
The Evidence mask is left to set for 10 minutes, during which time
you are treated to a further massage on the back and shoulders.
The mask is peeled off, revealing a diagnostic cast which the therapist
can look at to suggest suitable products to help prevent the signs
of aging. Finally your face is moisturised and a firming neck gel
is applied, leaving your skin feeling smooth and stress free.
Another type of facial is the Catiovital by Mary Cohr. This
is a deep cleansing, regenerating and balancing facial for all skin
types. It lasts for one and a quarter hours and is wonderfully relaxing,
resulting in a beautifully fresh and well-toned complexion.
The treatment has four phases. First the skin is cleansed with an
appropriate cleanser and toner. Then it is purified using a soft,
light transparent mask, the gentle warmth of which creates a sauna
effect that opens the pores and frees them of ingrained make-up,
sebum and atmospheric pollutants. These come to the surface and
are wiped away.
The next phase is the treatment of the specific skin problem, by
using ionisable gels and a galvanic current. Ionisation encourages
the gels to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and help correct
the condition at the source where it first develops. The face is
then nourished by a massage with essential oils selected specially
for your skin type. Finally, a relaxing mask is applied which leaves
the face rested, radiant and glowing.
