Place a chip pan basket into the saucepan before boiling vegetables – draining is then quick and easy.
When you have left over milk nearing its sell by date, use it to make cheese sauce or white sauce and freeze it – Lasagne or cauliflower cheese in an instant!
Place small grubby plastic toys or Lego pieces in the cutlery box of the dishwasher – they will look as good as new.
Two teaspoons of whisky or brandy put on the top of homemade jam or marmarlade eliminates the need for a wax cover and also stops mould forming – it tastes delicious too!
If a newly cut key sticks in a lock, scribble on the key's teeth with a pencil. Pencil graphite is an excellent lubricator.
If your teapot is stained by tea inside, use soda crystals to clean it. Just pour in a cupful and fill the teapot with boiling water. Leave for a good 30 minutes. Make sure you rinse thoroughly with hot water before using.
To keep biscuits nice and crisp for longer, place two sugar cubes in the container you’re storing them in. The sugar cubes will absorb the moisture and This will stop the biscuits from going soft.

If you use tinned baby milk, don’t throw away the containers. Just paint over the writing, attach labels and use for storing pasta, rice or flour.
To fix a cracked plastic toy or bowl, simply heat the end of a screwdriver until it is hot and rub it over the sides of the crack to melt the plastic slightly. Then press the pieces together.
During the winter months, store your garden umbrella in a pair of old tights. Slot the brolly into one leg and the pole in the other and tie the top. The two sections stay together and no creepy crawlies can get in.
