Meet
with your best man early and check everything is in order
making sure that you have the rings, speech, presents, telemessages
and any travel documents. Pass these to your best man for
safe keeping.
It is your best man's responsibility to get you to the ceremony
on time, however, for peace of mind, have a contingency
plan in case the worst happens. Be prepared - make sure
your car, at least, has a tank full of petrol. Aim to arrive
at least 30 minutes before the ceremony is due to start.
If you live some distance away from your marriage venue,
you should consider staying overnight at a nearby hotel.
Do not be late!
If
you are having a church ceremony, you should be in position
at least 15 minutes before your bride is due to arrive.
Initially, you and your best man sit in the front right
pew before moving to the head of the aisle a few minutes
prior to her arrival.
If you are having a civil ceremony you will first be required
to meet with the registrar to complete the legal preliminaries.
If you prefer not see your bride before she enters the marriage
room, you can arrange for each of you to be seen separately
by the registrar before the ceremony commences.
At
the appropriate point in the ceremony, you will place the
ring on the third finger of your bride's left hand. If you
are to receive a ring, this too will be placed on your third
finger of your left hand by your bride.
With your wife standing on your left side, you lead the
bridal party out of the ceremony venue, with your guests
following. Photographs are always taken after the ceremony
but whether traditional group photographs are taken at the
ceremony venue or the reception venue will depend upon each
venue's suitability and setting.
