Florida and Walt Disney World

Florida, the ‘sunshine state’ is located on a large peninsula at the most southern point of the eastern coast of the United States and is just over one thousand miles south of New York. Approximately one hundred miles long and four hundred miles wide, Florida boasts a wonderful semi-tropical climate and has many hundreds of miles of white sand beaches. Probably best known for its theme parks such as Disney World and Universal studios, Florida has the best offer for combining a fairytale wedding with a relaxing honeymoon.

Documents and legal requirements
Residency: There are no residency requirements in Florida but you must obtain your marriage licence first (see Obtaining Your Marriage Licence)
Proof of ID: You must present some identification and proof of your age, your passport or birth certificate will be acceptable.
Divorced: If you are divorced you must have a copy of your final divorce decree that clearly indicates the date and place that the decree is registered.
Widowed: you must produce the Death Certificate of your former spouse
Age restriction: You must be a minimum of 18 years old to marry in Florida without parental consent
Name change: If your name has been changed by Deed Poll legal proof, stamped and signed by a solicitor is required. This also applies if a married woman has reverted back to her maiden name.
Adopted: If you are adopted the adoption certificate must be produced.

Ceremonies
If the idea of a fairy tale appeals to you then your dreams can come true in Disney World in any one of their magical worlds but, in true American fashion Florida offers you so much more as well. You can have whatever type of wedding ceremony you desire, from 30 feet underwater at a Key Largo reef to a quiet romantic setting in a lakeside gazebo or a religious service in one of Florida’s beautiful chapels. Legally recognised marriage ceremonies can be performed by all regularly ordained ministers of a church and all judicial officers, clerks of the circuit courts and notaries of the state.

Obtaining your marriage licence
All that is required for you to obtain your marriage licence is that you attend the Clerk’s Office in person, taking with you all necessary documents and the fee, which is currently $88.50. Once the application is filed the licence is issued immediately. The process normally takes no more than 15 minutes. The licence is then valid for sixty days from the date of issue.
