Las Vegas is well situated for anyone wanting to explore the southwest of the USA. The surrounding landscape is stark and forbidding yet strangely beautiful with Red Rock Canyon, just twenty miles away, looking just like a Hollywood scene from a cowboy movie. Las Vegas, itself, is the city that never sleeps, where casinos never close, fabulous shows are performed all night and where you can gamble around the clock and is considered to be the adult’s Disney. However, Las Vegas is much more than neon lights and has been transformed over the last seventy years from a dusty watering hole into one of the most elaborate cities in the world and the hottest holiday destination in the States.

Documents and legal requirements
Residency: There are no residency requirements for marrying in Las Vegas
Proof of ID: You must present some identification and proof of your age, your passport or birth certificate will be acceptable.
Divorced: If you are divorced you must have a copy of your final divorce decree that clearly indicates the date and place that the decree is registered.
Age restriction: You must be over eighteen years old although you can marry if you are sixteen or seventeen if you are accompanied by at least one of your parents or if you have an affidavit confirming your parents’ permission. Proof of age will be required through age twenty-one.

Ceremonies
There are as many places to get married in Las Vegas as types of wedding ceremony. You can have anything from a short simple civil ceremony to an elaborate, romantic wedding. The simplest way to get married is by having a brief civil ceremony performed by the Las Vegas Marriage Commissioner, which only takes half-an-hour and will cost about $50.00
Wedding chapels are a part of the myth of Las Vegas and most of the casinos contain at least one wedding chapel. These chapels tend to be very elegant and much grander than the small independent chapels, however this means that there is something to suit all tastes. For an unforgettable wedding, you can try one of the special wedding services that are offered by wedding consultants in Las Vegas. You can choose anything from an Elvis or Star Trek theme to a ceremony held in a helicopter flying over the Las Vegas strip or it could be held as you stand on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Just let your imagination run as wild as Las Vegas itself.

Obtaining your marriage licence
You must both appear in person at the Marriage Licence Bureau at 200 South Third Street downtown. The office is open from 8am until midnight on weekdays and from 8am Friday until midnight Sundays every weekend. They are also open twenty-four hours on all holidays. Once you have your licence any person authorised in the state of Nevada can perform the marriage ceremony, which must take place within one year from the date your licence is issued.

When you return home you will require a copy of your Nevada marriage certificate as proof of your marriage, which can be purchased at the Clark County Recorder’s office for $7.00 (see further information for addresses).
